A screw on a white background.

A screw from a traffic accident

A large screw (about 10 cm) collected from the scene of a traffic accident.

What is it?

A large screw (about 10 cm) collected from the scene of a traffic accident.

Why does it matter?

The screw was likely holding a fence or a pole that the car struck in a head-on collision. The accident occurred not far from where I live. An irresponsible young man drove a Tesla at over 180 km/h off the road and killed a passerby.

It was an event that shook the entire city and community, bringing uncertainty into people’s lives. For me, it also symbolizes the lack of empathy between people divided by income and lifestyle. It represents irresponsibility, carelessness, and a dehumanized form of technological progress—one that has replaced humanity with competitiveness and money.

Who needs a car that becomes a deadly weapon in the city centre?

An hour after the accident, I went to the scene to see the place, the people, the driver, and the victim—who was covered with a white sheet. A day later, I returned and picked up the screw, which I now keep on the bookshelf in my apartment as a memento mori and memento vivere.
