Seeds

I’ve always been curious about what places looked like before the big cities and urban sprawls took over.

What is it?

Seeds from the ornamental night flower fuchsia, local wildflower.

Why does it matter?

I’ve always been curious about what places looked like before the big cities and urban sprawls took over. Coming from Australia, where the urban treescapes are often imported, I was very aware of how we can radically change our landscapes. When I moved to Barcelona 8 years ago it took me a while to adapt to the concrete environment, but I was curious about what lies beneath, what were the plants that helped to form this land. These ornamental night flower seeds were from Col·lectiu Eixarcolant, who are recovering thousands of wild species and traditional varieties of plants that have practically disappeared, collecting them and their stories from older generations and story keepers. They were also the first plant I managed to grow from a seed, breaking down my conviction that I cannot be a gardener.
