two white small ceramic cups with gold rim and decoration and no handles.

Coffee cups

I cherish these objects because they remind me of the culture I belong to.

What is it?

A pair of coffee cups from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Why does it matter?

I come from a family of mixed religions but I grew up in a Catholic home with my mother and her parents. My grandfather from my father’s side was Muslim and after his death I visited his family, our relatives, in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the first time. I noticed they drank a lot of coffee which was always served in tiny cups filled to the rim. At a local bazaar I bought these two cups which I never use but keep them displayed on a bookshelf. I cherish them as they remind me of the culture I belong to.
